This set of wood panels, all roughly the same size, are samples made in the workshop on a traditional priming or sizing base. They illustrate combinations of solid colors on painted surfaces, graining that imitates various kinds of wood, faux marble finishes (invented or copied from real examples), floral motifs, and monochrome trompe-l'oeil painting, which can also be done on a gold-leaf base. Their function is to demonstrate the effects requested by the decorator hired by a private or public client.
